The Methow River is a rare find in all the NW states.  Some compare the pure, clean waters of the Methow River to some of the famous rivers of Montana.  Guides from Montana marvel at the similarities.

The indigenous fish range from Cutthroat, Rainbow, Bulltrout, Whitefish and anadramous runs of Chinook and Steelhead. The river opens June 1st for trout through mid October.  Expect great trout fishing from July - September.

The state of Washington typically opens the Steelhead fishing in mid-October. Though the river is listed as a closed river, the state uses a Federally issued "emergency openin
g" to create our steelhead season, which was been strong this past season and early talk is there will be a another strong season this year.  Keep checking our site for updates.

The Methow River and its many tributaries drain the east slope of North Cascades. Additional basins to the West

(the Stehekin and Wenatchee river basin) are the other major drainage for the East slope of the North Cascades of which the Methow drains into the mighty Columbia River, which finds its way to the Pacific Ocean. Eventually, the Methow River dumps into the mighty Columbia River, home of many fish species especially the salmon family.  And there is some amazing fishing just 30-45 minutes from Carlton in the Columbia River.

But back to the Methow River.  The tributaries that feed the Methow bring another fishing opportunity.  Creek fishing.

Though typically smaller fish in size, the local creeks provide expanded season, good fishing and a different challenge for the angler seeking a different adventure.
